"Space Flight"
aka "Patton"
Patton was proudly owned, shown, and
loved by Jimmy and Jackie Wampler.
Patton passed away on Jan. 1, 2009 at the age of 28 due to
heart failure. The following words are from Jimmy and
Jackie to their beloved mount:
"We were Blessed to have owned
you for 21 yrs. I will miss you my dear friend.
You were a good horse to us. We won many ribbons
thru out Tenn., Ky., Va., and NC.
He hadn't had anyone on his
back since he was 15. We just let him live out the
rest of his life being a horse and taking it easy.
He was known around the area as Patton, but his Reg. TWH
name was Space Flight. He was a big, gray stallion
that was real silvery looking in the show ring."
"Proud stallion.....you
stand, head held high, nostrils flared, sniffing the
incoming breezes. You survey the distance, the far
green fields, where you should be.....free, not penned
in your sawdust stall. You cannot go there ,with
geldings, foals, and mares. You can only dream of
ruling your own large herd.
Far fields away, your longing
neigh can be heard.
Rest in peace, my Dear Patton.
I know God has put you with his herd now. We will
miss you."

Stars Domain
Star and his owner Sherry
Hilton were the first pair in the history of the Scott
County Regional Horse Association to proudly carry the
colors in support of SCRHA mission.
He was a very proud stallion
that loved the attention from all that admired him.
He was featured in The Gaited Horse magazine in Summer
2004 edition in an article called The Sound
Alternative. Sherry was ask for a interview after a
show in Tazewell, Va. He was a naturally gaited, keg
shod, spotted racking horse and was registered with
the American Spotted Horse Association. In is five
years of showing, he placed 1st 25 times in Trail
Racking. The biggest night of our life was wining
the Stanley Memorial Trophy that had been won 12
times by Jimmy Horne at the Dickenson County
Fair. Star's ability on the trail surpassed his show
ability. When you were on his back, you knew his trail judgment
was sound. He and I were in some real messes,
from bee stings to almost cliff climbing. He will
always be the one horse that was at the front of the
Dungannon Parade carrying the flag.
I think of him often. He taught me
more than I ever taught him. As a stallion he
had his own field. When his turn-out was over, he
would be at the fence shaking his head "I
wanna come in". There are still a few Star
babies on the farm and in the county. We lost him the
weekend of the 2005 Russell County Fair. He is now
at rest above the fields that he once protected and
roamed. Ever now and then, me and his running buddy, Images
Perfect Sun, drop in and say hello......

Pride's Grey
Thunder
Pride’s Grey Thunder, or “Thunder”
as he was affectionately called, was the first horse to take
me to my very first blue ribbon win, and over the years I
was privileged to accompany this beautiful stallion to many
more blues in the show ring, as well as hundreds of miles on
the trails. I purchased Thunder from Middle TN on his 2nd
birthday. He was just started under saddle, but from that
day on he was always easy to ride and would go anywhere I
pointed him. He seemed to love the show ring. Thunder was a
registered TN. Walking horse as well as being registered
Racking. His sire was the legendary grey stallion Master
Mountaineer, and Thunder’s grandsire on his dam’s side
was the stunning silver show horse known as “Patton”
owned by Jimmy and Jackie Wampler. Thunder and I had many
“memorable” moments in the show ring, and we had many
more adventurous rides on the trails. I will never forget
his beauty, intelligence, smooth ride, and his funny, gentle
personality. Thunder occupied a major part of my heart, and
his untimely death on June 22, 2005 at the age of 9 years
old took a large part of my heart with him. I know there
will be many other horses in my life, but none will ever
compare to my beautiful “fairytale” stallion. Upon
Thunder’s death, a friend of mine gave me a print of a
beautiful grey horse and the quote under the print was
perfect for my beloved Thunder:
"Somewhere.....somewhere in
time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again."
